-‘Flamenco Vivo Carlota Santana’, the premier Flamenco company in the United States will be performing at the Ellen Eccles Theatre in Logan again TONITE (Wednesday) at 730p.m. Their program will present 2 sides of the flamenco art form, the traditional and a second side which highlights the Latino influences on the flamenco art-form. -spend an evening with “Johnny Cupcakes”-TONITE (Wed) at 8p.m. in the USU Taggart Student Center Ballroom. Johnny Earle (aka Johnny Cupcakes) will tell the story of how he turned a simple idea into a multi-million dollar business using non-traditional methods. Starting his business at the age of 19, Johnny developed his company without a business plan, start-up loans, investors, or even conventional advertising. Johnny has managed to launch one of the most recognized independent t-shirt brands in the U.S. and Europe with retail stores in Boston, Los Angeles and London, UK. The event is free and open to the public.
-NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness) in Cache Valley offers the following: a Connections Support Group for those living with mental illness, every Wednesday evening from 6p.m. to 730p.m. / a Support Group for families of those living with mental illness, on the first Wednesday of each month from 7p.m. to 8p.m. Both these groups meet at the NAMI office (90 E 200 North) in Logan (through the north entrance of the Bear River Mental Health building) also NAMI offers free classes for those living with mental illness, for their families, clergy, health care providers and anyone else interested in learning more about mental illness. -Canyon Elementary and Lincoln Elementary Schools in Hyrum are sponsoring a series of workshops for parents to help children succeed in school. Parents of children who are 4 years-old and will be turning 5 before Sept 1st are invited to attend the workshops held TONITE (Wednesday) and March 21st. Door prizes and take home materials will be provided. Childcare is available for children of parents attending. All workshops will take place in the Canyon Elementary Media Center @ 7p.m. or Lincoln Elementary Media Center at 630p.m. Please call Canyon Elementary or Lincoln Elementary to let them know that you will be attending.
-the Smithfield Lions Club is holding their Spaghetti Dinner – on Thursday from 5p.m. to 730p.m. at the Lion’s Lodge (380 E 80 North). Socialize with your neighbors and help prevent blindness at the same time! Tickets available at the door: adults $6, children 10 & younger $4, and 3 and younger are free. All proceeds go for prevention of blindness.

-the next event in the Logan Tabernacle Concert and Lecture series is Thursday night at 7p.m. Come hear Kevin Kula and Friends perform “Music that Heals the Soul”, an inspirational night of love songs as a fitting finish to the Valentines month. Kevin, an acclaimed pianist, and violinist Mami Matsumoto Lyon, who recently returned from a successful Arizona concert tour, will be offering popular favorites and Broadway hits, and some of their original compositions. They will be joined by talented soprano vocalist, Jennifer Birchell, the Music Therapy director at Sunshine Terrace. As an additional treat, Jeff Lyon, an excellent saxophonist, will add variety as he joins them on several songs.
-for 65 winters, Hardware Ranch Wildlife Management Area has been taking thousands of visitors on sleigh rides among hundreds of wild elk and history continues as the Sleigh Rides have started up for another fun season. -USU’s Museum of Anthropology hosts a guest speaker on Saturday as part of its “Saturdays at the Museum” series. James Adovasio, a noted archeologist and director of the Mercyhurst Archelogical Institute, speaks at 1p.m. at the museum. The topic is taken from his recent book “The Invisible Sex: Some Thoughts on the Roles of Women in Prehistory”. In addition to the guest lecture, visits to the museum can try their hand at basket weaving from 10a.m. to 12 noon. The museum will also highlight the Navajo Weaving and Great Basin Basketry exhibits throughout the day. The museum is located in the south turret of the historic Old Main bldg., room 252. -MAN versus MUD registration for the 2012 event is now open. The 5k mud run will take place on Friday, Aug 31st thru Saturday, Sept 1st. Participants can register online at www.manvsmud.com . The challenge is no ordinary 5K race, but is the ultimate event for people of all skill levels. This year will include competitive heats for the thrill-seeking athletes and weekend warriors looking for a fun and unique challenge. This “more fun, less run” race will be held at the American West Heritage Center. The 2012 course includes numerous improvements, additional obstacles, and a kids course for the little ones. Voted Utah’s Best Mud Run, the Man vs Mud course consists of over 28 obstacles with plenty of mud. Spectators are free and are encouraged to attend this family-friendly event. -Logan Parks and Recreation Department would like to remind dog owners to clean up after their dogs at Hyrum Gibbons Mount Logan Park. Dogs are allowed , on a trial basis, on leash on the walkways only that run through the park. Dogs are NOT allowed anywhere else in the park. It has been reported to city staff that some dog owners are not cleaning up after their dogs. Dog owners MUST clean up any and all dog feces left by their dogs per ordinance 6.04.090. Clean up bags are available at doggie stations near the entrance of the park. -it’s that time again L…no one can park a vehicle on any street or city-owned parking lot in Logan without it being attended by someone able to immediately move it, between the hours of 1a.m. and 6a.m. Tanner Morrell of the Logan Parking Authority says the parking law will remain in effect regardless of snow fall until the end of February. Those who violate the ordinance are subject to a $15 dollar citation. Weather-permitting exceptions will be made for Christmas week. Citizens are asked to call Morrell (435-750-0255) for questions or additional information.
-North Logan Speed Change: 800 East is now 30 MPH along the residential part of the corridor. Also NO PARKING on North Logan City Streets between 1a.m. & 5a.m. til the end of February. Violators will be cited. If it is snowing during other hours, please do not park on the street while the snowplows are trying to clear the streets….also DID YOU KNOW that you could be cited for parking left to the curb, blocking a driveway, parking an expired registered vehicle on the roadway, parking in a Fire Zone ? And these are just a few of the violations that occur throughout North Logan City streets. Please be aware of the ordinances by checking www.northlogancity.org/municipalcodes.
-the H.E.A.T. (Home Energy Assistance Target) program is now open. This program assists low income households in paying their electric and fuel bills. An eligible household can apply for one H.E.A.T. payment per winter season. For Cache county call the HEAT program located at the Bear River Association of Governments, 170 N Main, Logan at 435-752-7242. For Rich County call 1-877-772-7242. For Box Elder county call (435-723-1116) for program information in your area. This program will run until April 27th, 2012 or until federal funds are exhausted.
-the Logan Aquatic Center (451 S 500 West) in Logan is now taking reservations for the 2012 season. The season will run May 26th through Sept 3rd. The pool can be reserved Tuesday thru Sunday from 730 to 930p.m. except holidays. Reservation fees are $500 for an exclusive reservation and $300 for a multi-group reservation. Also, new this year and available to reserve during public open swim is a covered pavilion within the Logan Aquatic Center gates. Rental fee is $34. Times available are Monday thru Saturday from 12 noon to 3pm. and/or 4p.m. to 7p.m. and Sunday from 3p.m. to 6p.m. For more information: (435-716-9250).

-Logan City Environmental Dept is pleased to announce that the glass recycling bins at the Logan Landfill Recycling drop-site will remain available for public use. Brown,clear and green glass can be taken to the drop site during landfill operating hours. This location will continue to operate as long as contamination remains low. The landfill recycling drop site is located at 1400 W 200 N in Logan.
