-the Logan Community Recreation Center (195 S 100 West) has changed it’s hours to accommodate the beginning of the school year for Logan High School. Public hours are as follows: Mon – Fri 530a.m. to 230p.m. and 530p.m. to 930p.m. and Saturday from 7a.m. to 5p.m. For more information: (716-9250) 

-A ribbon-cutting will be held TODAY(Wed) marking the official opening of USU's College of Agriculture’s Equine Education Center. The center was built in response to the high demand for equine education throughout the western region, with the first phase taking less that one year to complete. The facility has been created for people who have a passion and love for horses. The event is open to the public. 2p.m. near the Utah Agricultural Experiment Station's Animal Science Farm, Highway 89. 

-the Cache Valley Historical Society meeting for September will feature Stan Allen who will discuss and show pictures of historical monuments, markers and landmarks in Cache Valley. The meeting is TONITE(Wed) at 7p.m. in the northeast corner of the Logan Library building. Stan attended school at USU and completed a PhD at Iowa State. He taught Veterinary Science at USU from 1996 until his retirement in 2007. The lecture is free and the public is invited to attend. 

-Youth Hockey – try it FREE tonight! TONITE (Wed)- 530p.m. at the Eccles Ice Arena (2825 N 200 East) in North Logan. FREE to boys and girls ages 4-14. Come give it a try! We provide gear, skates and coaches (including members of the USU hockey team!) Parents come get your questions answered and see just how fun youth hockey can be.

-A “Back to School Carnival” will be held TONITE(Wed). from 5p.m. to 730p.m. at the Millville School Playground (67 S Main ,Millville). With pizza, games, drinks, concessions, climbing wall, obstacle course, silent auction, Giant Slides, Dunk Tank, Trading Post, Train Rides, Pony Rides and Live Bands. -NAMI, the National Alliance on Mental Illness, (Cache Valley affiliate) is having an educational meeting – TONITE(Wed) at 7p.m. at the NAMI office (90 E 200 North) in the basement of the Bear River Mental Health bldg in Logan. This month’s speaker will be local artist and teacher Grant L Lund, presenting “Awake! Take Control of Your Chaos”. -Bear Lake Outdoor Heritage Days will be held Friday and Saturday at the Garden City Complex, 69 N Paradise Parkway(300 West) in Garden City. Friday it’s Exhibits from 2p.m. to 7p.m. with a Gun Show, Big Game Trophy Room, Stone Carving exhibit, Face Painting, Trader’s Row, Candy Cannon (throughout the day), Saddles & Leather, FOOD and more….like a Concealed Firearms Permit Class (sign-up required) – cost is $60 per person. -pre-register by Friday for the 2010 Fall Encampment- Friday, Sept 17th and Saturday, Sept 18th at the American West Heritage Center. Come celebrate 100 years of Scouting with team-building games; timed events using fire, compass and knots and lashings; knife and hawk throwing and a plethora of activities! This encampment is for all Boy Scouts, Varsity Scouts and Venturing Youth in five districts: Elkhorn, Bear Lake, Franklin, Old Ephraim and Old Juniper. -the 3rd annual Cache Valley ‘Historic Home tour’ will be held Saturday from 11a.m. to 5p.m. and spotlights homes on the south end of the valley. This year’s tour features beautifully restored homes in Paradise, Hyrum, Wellsville and Mendon. Visitors will also see lavish landscaping and numerous unique historic artifacts collected by the various homeowners. The Paradise Daughters of the Utah Pioneers Museum and the historic Mendon Railroad Station will also be open. Tickets are $10 dollars and include entrance into the American West Heritage Center’s working farm home. The Center will provide special programming in conjunction with the tour. In addition, diners will receive a free drink and dessert with lunch or dinner purchase at the Cracker Barrel restaurant in Paradise. Tickets available at Macey’s Food & Drug, Lee’s Marketplace in Logan and the Cache Valley Visitors Bureau (199 N Main) in Logan. Visitors are encouraged to carpool when viewing the homes. -Cache Valley Gardeners' Market is an open-air market held every Saturday (into October) from 9a.m. to 1p.m. The market is not only the best place in town to find fresh, locally grown produce, but our customers can also browse fine arts and crafts. -the first 2011 phone books have started to arrive! As you receive new phone books, Logan City Environmental Department would like to remind you that your old phone books can be recycled in your blue curbside recycling bin. All types of paper are accepted in our curbside recycling program, including bound books. Phone books are generally made with the lowest quality of paper, but can still be reprocessed and made into ceiling tiles, textbook covers, record album covers and insulation.
