Every March takes me back to my days covering the University of Utah in the “Big Dance”.  The “late” Rick Majerus was a friend and in his 15 GREAT seasons he led the Ute’s to 11 NCAA Tournament appearances.  How Utah ended up facing Kentucky 4 times in that span was unreal.  The two schools met in 91′, 96′, 97′, and 98′.  Being in San Antonio at the Alamo Dome for the “Final 4” in 98′ was one of the best times of my life.  In the Semi-Finals the Ute’s upset the Tar Heels of North Carolina, and then in the “Title Tilt” they led the Wildcats by 10 but eventually ran “out of gas” and lost 78-69.  I’ll never forget Majerus in his Utah sweater “prowling” the sidelines and coaching his “tail off”.  I loved every minute of it, and wouldn’t trade those experiences for anything!

Upsets happen every year just like Georgia State and UAB pulled off against Baylor and Iowa State.  Needless to say “Expect the Unexpected”.  Enjoy the tourney and I hope your Brackets are in better shape than mine.
